Sixth Grade Exploratory Music Curriculum

The sixth grade exploratory music curriculum is a ten week program consisting of basic music theory, including, note values, staff reading, ear training and chording.  Students will develop these basic music theory skills over several weeks, through repetition, drill and some fun music games developed here at Adams Memorial Middle School. The last two to three weeks of the program will give students the opportunity to apply theses skills to the introduction of the keyboard and the guitar.

Sixth grade students will also do a unit on the Blues including the history and it's development to the Blues of today. Students will also study the influence that this form of music has had on today's popular music.  The following videos will be used to reinforce these concepts.

Sixth grade students will also do a unit on the Beatles.  Students will study the history and the music behind one of the most famous and influential rock bands of all time. The unit will include listening and the studying of Beatle music and the mystery behind their album covers.  The class will also have the opportunity to watch the following Beatle Videos.
