The eighth grade Exploratory Music Program students normally would be studying the keyboard but due to the large number of students in each class and the lack of instruments, eighth grade students will be allowed to choose between the keyboard or guitar. Students will use the music theory skills learned and developed in the sixth and seventh grade and apply them to the keyboard or guitar. Students are encouraged to pair up with friends and work out songs together. Students will be asked to learn a few basic music compositions before being able to use the extensive Adams Memorial Middle School Music Library which includes internet access.
Eighth grade students will also study a unit on Mozart. Students will be exposed to the music of Mozart as well as an opportunity to perform some of Mozart's music. Students will also view the movie that won 8 academy awards, Amadeus .
Eighth grade students will also watch the movie Shine . This is the story of David Helffgot's life and the effect that his father and classical piano competitions had on his life.
