The Flute consists of three parts:
1.The Head Joint
2.The Main Body
3.The Foot Joint
HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE FLUTE
1.Firmly grasp the Main Body (Part 2 at Arrow "A") in the
left hand.
2.Take the Foot Joint (Part 3) and grasp with right hand
at arrow "B" in a very straight, yet twisting manner, put part 3 and
2 together. The long, main hinge (or rod)
of part 3 should align and center itself with the center of the keys of
part 2. DO
NOT ALIGN the rods to the rods as this is
incorrect and is a very common mistake in the assembly of the Flute.
3.Now take the assembled main body and foot joint. Again,
grasp at Arrow "A" with the left hand. In the right hand grasp
part 1 (Head Joint) at Arrow "C". In a very
straight, yet twisting manner assemble the Head Joint into the receiver
of the
main body.To properly align the Head Joint,
be sure that the Blow Hole in the Lip Plate of the Head Joint is in line
with
the keys on the Main Body of the Flute.
Great care must be taken at all times when assembling or disassembling
the Flute. You must be sure that your twisting and
pushing motions remain straight. Otherwise, the joints could be damaged
and will loosen.
HOW TO DISASSEMBLE THE FLUTE
1.When the flute is disassembled, follow the steps for
assembly in reverse. Be sure to place each part in the case securely
before going to the next step.
CARING FOR THE FLUTE
The Player should be encouraged to develop habits that lead him/her
to cleaning and caring for the Flute each and every time
he/she finishes practicing. The best time to do this is immediately
after the Flute has been disassembled and put in the case just
prior to closing the case. Each part should be cleaned making caring
for the Flute as easy as. . . . 1, 2, 3.
(1) The Head Joint
1.Hold the Head Joint in the left hand at Arrow "C". Swab
carefully the INSIDE of the Head Joint to remove all moisture.
You may use a cleaning rod with cloth OR a
pad saver.
2.Take a Silver polishing cloth and GENTLY polish the
Head Joint to its original lustre. Be sure to take special effort and
clean the tenon section of the Head Joint
which is the section that was INSIDE the Main Body of the Flute.
(2) The Main Body
1.Pick up the Main Body with the left hand at Arrow "A".
Again, using either a cleaning rod with cloth or pad saver, swab
the INSIDE until all moisture is removed.
2.Take a Silver polishing cloth and GENTLY polish the
Main Body on the OUTSIDE to its original lustre. Be sure to take
remove ALL fingerprints. Just PRIOR to returning
the Flute back to its case make a special effort to clean the INSIDE
of the Main Body Tenon at Arrow "A" and the
OUTSIDE of the lower Tenon of the Main Body where the Foot Joint
joins the Main Body. If the Tenon parts are
kept clean, assembly will continue to be an EASY process.
(3) The Foot Joint
1.Pick up the Foot Joint with the left hand at Arrow "B".
Again, swab the inside with the cleaning rod with cloth or pad
saver, swab the INSIDE until all moisture
is removed.
2.Using the polish cloth, gently clean the OUTSIDE until
the Flute returns to its original lustre. Be sure to remove all
fingerprints. A special effort should be made
to thoroughly clean the INSIDE of the tenon joint on the Foot Joint where
it
meets the Main Body.
IN GENERAL
1.Key Oil is needed to oil the rods and hinges of the Flute.
Your child should do this in the presence of their teacher. The
Flute mechanism should be oiled THREE times
per year.
2.The pad saver can be left in the Main Body of the Flute.
Its function is to draw any moisture into ITSELF and away from
the pads, thus preserving the pads of the
Flute
3.f the pads become sticky or if tenons become loose or
tight, please seek the advice of your teacher BEFORE
assembling or trying to repair the instrument
on your own.
