ON CALL

INTRODUCTION

There is a need in our community to honor our veterans.  Veterans are often only remembered on patriotic holidays.  One of the most touching and memorable ceremony is the final one, the playing of TAPS. This has always been the final reward honored to our veterans.  Not only is this an appropriate way to say good-bye to our veterans, it also leaves a sense of pride with the veterans family. Over the years this final ceremony has been fading due to the lack of buglers.  This project will train our young musicians so that the tradition can continue.

My proposed project is to take our trumpet players here at A.M.M.S. and have them research the background of the bugle and it’s use in military ceremonies. The horn players will then learn to play the bugle calls and produce a demo disk to be distributed  with a pamphlet  to local veteran groups and funeral parlors.

The goal of the project is to have our buglers “ON CALL” to perform at military ceremonies including TAPS at veteran’s funerals. This is a program that I hope can continue for years to come.
