The Trombone consists of six parts:
1.The Mouthpiece
2.The Slide Lock
3.The Slide Section( Inner/Outer)
4.The Bell Nut
5.The Bell Section
6.The Tuning Slide
Special Note: It is important that the Slide remain locked whenever
the Trombone is not being played. Be sure the Slide is
locked and will not move PRIOR to assembly. This will prevent damage
to the Slide Section.
HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE TROMBONE
1.Sit in a chair. Place the Trombone case in front of you
and open it.
2.Pick up the Bell Section with the left hand about six
inches from the bottom("A"). Pick up the Slide section with the right
hand at point "B". Hold these two sections
VERTICALLY and fit them together. Align these sections so that the top
of
the Slide is approximately two inches from
the Bell as indicated at right. Tighten the Nut with the right hand while
holding
the Trombone in the left hand.
3.Continue holding the Trombone with the left hand at
holding point "B and take the mouthpiece with the right hand and
GENTLY twist it into the Mouthpiece Receiver.
Be sure you do NOT hit the Mouthpiece with the palm of your hand.
HOW TO DISASSEMBLE THE TROMBONE
1.Be sure the Slide is locked.
2.Follow the procedures the assemble the Trombone IN REVERSE,
placing each section in the case.
HOW TO CARE FOR THE TROMBONE
The player should be encouraged to develop habits that lead him/her
to cleaning. There are procedures the player MUST do
BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER playing the Trombone. We will review each:
I. Before Playing
1.The Slide Section. There are two (2) methods of lubricating
the Slide Section. The first simply uses Slide oil. The second
method of lubricating the Slide uses cold
cream, water and usually an additive for faster slide action. This second
method
should be shown to the student in the presence
of a teacher. Generally speaking the second method is for more
advanced students.
2.Check the Tuning Slide to see that it moves and is well
greased. If it appears the Slide needs grease, remove it, grease it
and put it back in to the Trombone. The first
time this is done should be done in the presence of a teacher who will
show
you how to use the PROPER amount of tuning
slide grease.
II. During Playing Maintenance
1.If the slide action becomes sluggish during playing,
repeat the process as described above for lubricating the Slide. No
other maintenance should be necessary while
you are using the instrument.
III. The Conclusion of Use
1.Remove excess oil and water condensation from the INSIDE
of the Trombone by using the Water Keys.
2.Gently polish the Trombone with a cleaning cloth designed
for lacquer and/or silver surfaces. This may be obtained
through your Music Dealer.
IN GENERAL
1.When you have concluded practice or use of the Trombone,
be sure the Mouthpiece is removed and placed in the
section of the case designed to hold it securely
in place. Not putting your Mouthpiece in the proper place can result in
its
moving about the case causing damage to the
Trombone.
2.NEVER try to remove a stuck Mouthpiece or slide on your
own. ALWAYS consult your teacher or music dealer or
damage will result.
3.A complete cleaning of the Trombone is necessary every
month. This is a very detailed process and should be described
to your child one step at a time by the teacher.
DO NOT ATTEMPT a detailed, thorough cleaning of the inside of the
Trombone without a teachers help.
